基襪大戰本季第3度交手，洋基在家迎戰，鑽石打線甦醒，全場轟出3響砲，加上投手群合力封鎖對方攻勢，終場洋基以6比0完封紅襪。

洋基全場繳出9支安打，首局Mark Teixeira敲出犧牲打，助洋基先馳得點，4局下洋基攻勢再起，Kelly Johnson與Brett Gardner演出「背靠背」全壘打，灌進3分，最後Brian McCann在第8局，扛出2分全壘打。

洋基先發投手Vidal Nuno前兩場先發合計投9 1/3 局，挨了5轟，丟13分，這回繳出好投，主投5..2局，僅被敲2支安打，送出5次三振，2次保送，無失分，拿下本季第2勝（4敗），防禦率降至5.42。

此外，洋基在比賽最後3個半局，祭出3任牛棚投手，合計飆出4K，1保送，僅被敲1安，無失分，成功封鎖對方火力。

事實上，有鑒於Nuno前2場先發表現，洋基能在前一天是休兵日的情況下，讓已休息4天的田中將大出賽，不過，洋基教頭Joe Girardi沒打算這樣做，他堅持對待球員一視同仁：「球季還很長，不論今天田中有沒有先發，明星賽前，先發輪值就是如此，重要的是團體，而非個人。」

紅襪近日打線熄火，吞下近8場比賽中第6敗，並在近13場比賽，有11場比賽分數未超過3分，戰績36勝44敗，排名美聯東區倒數第2。

洋基則取得2連勝，拿下近10場比賽第6勝，戰績41勝37敗，位居同區第3。

上一回基襪大戰，田中將大打頭陣，繳出7.1局失2分的優質先發，領洋基以9比3大勝紅襪，這次系列賽，田中預計明日登板，再度體驗基襪世仇大戰。
