大都會隊「平成怪物」松坂大輔21日出賽，面對勇士隊投出3局0失分5次三振的好球，悄悄創下兩個日本紀錄，第一個是他20、21日都登板，創下10年來個人第一次連日投球的紀錄，第二個則是達成職棒生涯2000次三振，成為日本旅美員中，美日通算(不含日本國內)以來的第四人。

松坂大輔20日1局投得跌跌撞撞，失掉1分退場，第二天總教練柯林斯(Terry Collins)再給他機會，在延長賽11局上場，一開始就面對該局首棒打者投出保送，但接下來連續三次三振，化解危機，後面兩局都讓勇士三上三下，其中還包括兩次三振。而11局上K掉潘尼亞(Ramiro Pena)，美日通算2000次三振達成。

在日本職業球員的歷史紀錄裡，松坂是第四個美日職棒選手達到此成績的人，前三位分別是野茂英雄、石井一久以及黑田博樹。若單純只算日本職棒，則有21人達成此紀錄，以傳奇人物金田正一的4490個為最多。而在美國職棒則有69人達陣，以萊恩(Nolan Ryan)的5714次為最多。

此外，這場比賽也是松坂10年來首度連日投球，上次連續兩天登板，已經是2004年日本大賽的事了，當時他於第六戰面對中日龍，用134球力投8局，最快球速154公里，最終拿下勝利；第七戰8局結束球隊已經7比0領先，他還是銜命上陣投1局無失分作收。

目前松坂仍然以牛棚投手身份為主，何時能回到先發還無法確定，這位好手還是看得很開，表示「不管先發或後援，只要球隊能贏都好」。此外松坂也覺得連投其實沒什麼，在日本很常見，所以對自己來說並不成問題；柯林斯則表示，他在高中就這樣過了，我知道他可以。」
